What Treadwell needs to work

Why did it say it couldn't get a reading?

That's the app being honest. Treadwell would rather tell you nothing than tell you a wrong number. If it can't get a clean read (bad angle, belt out of frame, phone not steady, a belt with no visible marking), it says so and asks you to try again. It never invents a number to fill the gap. Line the moving belt up in the yellow box, aim where the belt's logo passes through, and try again at your usual running speed.

Why is the app's number different from my treadmill's?

That's the point of the app. A treadmill's display shows the number it was told to hit, not a measurement of the belt. Treadwell measures the belt itself. On one of our own test runs, the treadmill said 2.3 miles and the real distance was 2.0. If you want the treadmill's display corrected everywhere, calibrate it in the app and every setting maps to its true pace.

Does my data leave my phone?

Your measurements, calibrations, and runs stay on your device. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
